Why are the stats for men in women in Russia different than everywhere else?

First of all, I realize that Eastern European countries are also similar, but I want to focus on Russia because it is the biggest and most populated country in the area. I notice that females live ~10 years longer than men. I know women typically have longer life spans worldwide, but why is it so exaggerated in Russia? And does this also affect the sex-ratio (Russia has a lot more females than males)? Also, are there any any other differences with respect to gender in education, work force, politics, military, etc? I can't find any website that has any studies on this, but I really find these differences interesting. Also, I have noticed similar questions like this on yahoo, with answers like "it's the same as any other country." But in reality, every country has their differences. So please only answer if you know something.
